Does Diary Threads upload my diary?
Diary Threads has no developer diary server or app account. Version 0.4.1 saves content locally first, processes Beta import and export on device, and exports only after you choose an action. Verified Premium users can turn on private iCloud sync for eligible diary data.

Data is separated by purpose
Entry text, reply and quote relationships, favorites, dates, imported text, profile data, and media are saved locally first. Verified Premium users can sync eligible data through private iCloud. Appearance, reminders, App Lock, onboarding state, and Widget selection stay device-only.
This separation keeps visual media in the place where the user already manages it and avoids creating a second developer-hosted diary library.
Private iCloud sync keeps a local source of truth
Verified Premium users can choose whether to sync eligible diary data through a dedicated private CloudKit zone in their Apple Account. Turning sync off pauses transfer while the local diary stays available.
Signing back into the same Apple Account resumes sync automatically. Signing out shows that no account is available while preserving the local binding. Only a different Apple Account requires confirmation before local data merges with private data already associated with it. Deleting iCloud data removes the dedicated zone and keeps the local diary on the device.
App Lock covers the foreground and widgets
App Lock arms when the app reaches the background. Temporary inactive states caused by system pickers or authentication prompts do not end the current foreground session.
When App Lock is active, widgets hide entry text so private content does not appear on the Home Screen.
Sharing and permissions stay explicit
Diary Threads requests system access only when a feature needs it, such as selecting media, taking a photo, or scheduling a reminder.
Share posters, document import, and DOCX or Markdown export are processed locally. The user chooses the source, mode, file, and destination through explicit system flows.
