A gentle emotion suggestion, with you in control.
DiaryThreads can notice the tone of what you are writing without sending private text to a remote AI service or silently labeling an entry.

How do emotion suggestions work in DiaryThreads?
While you compose an entry on iPhone or iPad, an on-device language model can suggest a nearby emotion. The suggestion saves nothing by itself. You choose whether to open the State of Mind picker, adjust its seven-level value, grant Apple Health access, and confirm it. Emotion Trajectory analyzes only State of Mind values you explicitly saved.

The suggestion stays on the device
DiaryThreads evaluates the text currently being composed with Apple’s on-device Natural Language framework. The result is a lightweight suggestion rather than a diagnosis, score, or remotely generated label.
Ignoring it leaves the entry unchanged. Opening it presents the same State of Mind picker used for a manual emotion, with the suggestion selected as a starting point.
Emotion Trajectory uses recorded facts
Nothing is committed until the writer confirms the seven-level State of Mind picker. On iPhone and iPad, saving also requires Apple Health permission.
Analytics groups only State of Mind values explicitly attached to DiaryThreads entries. Body text is never re-read to infer Analytics values, and every result can open the contributing entries.
Apple Health and Mac keep distinct boundaries
State of Mind values live in Apple Health after permission is granted. They are excluded from widgets, search, share posters, document exports, private CloudKit diary data, and the developer’s infrastructure.
The Mac app has no HealthKit access. It keeps compatible diary content readable without reading or exposing Apple Health emotion values.
Questions about this topic
Does DiaryThreads send my entry to an AI server?
No. The suggestion is computed on device with Apple’s Natural Language framework. DiaryThreads has no developer diary or emotion-processing server.
Can a suggestion change my saved emotion automatically?
No. A suggestion only opens the picker with a starting value. You can change it, dismiss it, or confirm it yourself.
Does Analytics infer emotions from everything I write?
No. Emotion Trajectory uses only State of Mind values explicitly saved by the writer.
